Activity Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Monzen-Nakacho Station, the starting point of our tour of one of Tokyo's most spiritual neighbourhoods. Ready to witness the fire ceremony at Fukagawa Fudo-do Temple?
We'll begin by exploring the historic streets of Fukagawa, an area reminiscent of the essence of old Edo, where we'll find traditional shops and hidden shrines.
The most powerful moment of the experience will come with the fire ceremony at the Fukagawa Fudo-do Temple. This Buddhist rite, known as Goma, consists of a purification ritual with sacred fire while the monks recite chants and beat huge taiko drums. The overwhelming atmosphere and the energy of the moment will leave you speechless!
After the ceremony, we'll walk around the Fukagawa Fudo-do Temple to discover its impressive architecture, its protective statues and its amazing rooms full of mandalas and engravings.
We'll continue our route to Tomioka Hachimangu Shrine, famous for being the birthplace of sumo in Japan. Here, we'll learn about its history and stop at the Sumo Monument, a tribute to the sport's most legendary wrestlers.
To complete the activity, we'll visit the Fukagawa Edo Museum, where we'll travel back in time to the 17th century, the Edo period.
We'll finish the tour, returning to the starting point in Tokyo about 4 hours later.
